Zeigo joins tech disruptors’ ambition to Net Zero #TechZero

At Zeigo, our mission is to accelerate the transition to renewables. We are using technology to simplify and standardise the PPA procurement process because signing a PPA is the most impactful way that a business can buy clean energy; to put it simply, PPAs replace fossil fuels with green energy.

By joining TechZero, Zeigo is committing to reach net zero emissions before 2050. This means limiting our company’s carbon footprint in line with keeping global warming to below 1.5°C - the critical level of heating to avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis.

The commitments we’re making

As part of our net zero commitment, we will:

  • Measure all our global organisation’s greenhouse gas emissions, including scope 3, and report them publicly each year.

  • Publish more details about how we plan to reach net zero by the end of 2021, including setting a net zero target date by 2050 at the absolute latest, and an interim target. We’ll update progress here so watch this space.

  • Appointed a Green Committee team to be responsible and accountable for our net zero target and sustainability initiatives. We’ll report these figures to the Board too.

  • Support our customers in communicating their climate commitments and the impact they can make through signing PPAs.

We may be small, but we have a mighty impact.

With the current renewable energy capacity flowing through Zeigo’s platform, we could prevent 34 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere, or the equivalent of planting 547 million trees!

As a company, we’ve made a start on going green already. In 2020, Zeigo pushed forward with plans to become a net zero business by implementing an internal sustainability policy covering travel and procurement. We only purchase refurbished IT equipment, religiously recycle and advised employees to switch to an ethical pension fund.

Last year, we ran a virtual Renewable Energy Hackathon to find digital solutions to SME clean energy procurement through aggregated PPAs in partnership with sponsors DLA Piper and ScottishPower. The scope for growth in aggregation agreements is enormous and getting mid-sized companies on board is key to making the energy transition happen. By tackling the biggest challenges in renewables, we aim to foster innovation in the clean tech space so that we can make a bigger impact.

Going green is a team effort. There’s more to do and we’ll be posting our updates on our journey to Net Zero here!
